Our Mission

Buoy Health, Inc. (“Buoy,” “we,” “us,” and “our”) is on a mission to build technology with heart for the health of every person in the world. As part of that mission, we are committed to producing accurate and appropriate content for our users like you.

Buoy strives to provide the most relevant, accurate medical information at the first moment you feel sick. Through Buoy’s chatbot interface that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning, Buoy helps you locate the information you need quickly and with confidence. Buoy leads you to the most appropriate content, including options for the next steps in your journey to better health.

Buoy strives to publish and update information on the Buoy website or any Buoy-hosted site (collectively, the “Buoy Site” or “Site”) consistent with editorial integrity and aligned with only verified and reputable medical information. You can learn more about our Site content and editorial process. At the bottom of this page is important legal information that you should also review while you’re here.

Site Content

The medical information published on the Buoy Site is a mixture of original content and content developed by third parties vetted by Buoy. Our medical team reviews all Site content prior to publication on the Buoy Site. You can learn more about our medical team here. You can also read more about our content production process below.

The Buoy Site also includes content that is generated by users like you when you access and use the Buoy tool (the “User Generated Content”). You can learn more about User Generated Content below. Your access to and use of the Buoy tool is governed by our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, as well as our Cookies Policy.

User Generated Content. The information you submit to the Buoy tool, including your symptoms, help us improve our proprietary algorithm, which is powered by machine learning. This also helps the Buoy tool refine its precision and accuracy.

The information you submit to the Buoy tool also helps us provide a clearer picture of what causes may be associated with specific symptoms. As you and other users report certain symptom information to us via the Buoy tool, we compile that information to produce the top causes of that symptom. Here is an example. Notably, our causes information is only as accurate as the information you provide to us.

Metadata. Buoy adds metadata to Site content to promote the Buoy Site in Internet search engine results. Buoy currently uses a third party to create and manage this metadata, including descriptive tags and hyperlinks.

Social Media Posts. Our social media posts may include links or references to Buoy Site content. In addition, our social media posts may include links or references to external content originally published by third parties that we have deemed reputable and appropriate for sharing. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter at @buoyhealth, and on Facebook and LinkedIn at Buoy Health.

Editorial Process

We follow a strict editorial process grounded in the standards and ethics of medical and science journalism. All content on the Buoy Site is written by a trained medical professional, including members of the Buoy team as well as medical students at top medical schools across the United States. In addition, this content is reviewed by members of the Buoy editorial and medical teams – who edit the content, check any facts, and organize the content for clarity. Members of the Buoy medical team are board-certified. On each content page, the names of the writer, editor and medical reviewer, along with any of their relevant credentials, are included with the medical information.

From time to time Buoy may form a partnership with a third-party organization for educational or other purposes. In this instance, if this organization contributes to the content production process, we will include information about the organization and the extent of their involvement with the content.

Buoy uses the most recent version of the American Medical Association Style Guide for all medical terms and phrases. For non-medical information, Buoy uses the most recent version of the Associated Press Style Guide. For citations, Buoy uses the American Psychological Association (APA) Style. For example, at the end of every sentence that includes a citation, you will find a citation number in brackets. That number refers to a footnote at the bottom of the page, which includes information about the source of information.
