Keerthan Somanath, MD
Specialty in Psychiatry
Dr. Keerthan Somanath graduated from University of Texas at Austin with honors, completing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and minor in Mathematics.
He subsequently worked as a software engineer at National Instruments in Austin, Texas, where he developed an interest in neuroscience, and later medicine, after working with one of the company's clients. At UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Somanath graduated with distinction in research after pursuing a one-year Dean’s Research Scholar Fellowship. He went on to complete almost two years of residency in anesthesiology at UT Southwestern, during which he went through a period of soul searching and found psychiatry to be his true calling.
He completed his psychiatry residency training at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, where he extensively trained at both UCLA and the West LA VA, and went on to serve as Chief Resident of the UCLA Outpatient Clinics during his final year of training. Afterwards, he went on to complete the Max Gray Mood Disorders Fellowship at UCLA's Semel Institute under the supervision of Dr. Michael Gitlin.
His experience in varied clinical settings largely influenced his decision to pursue a career that offers affordable care to patients, as well as different treatment modalities. He feels most fortunate to be working with a team that has a wide array of clinical backgrounds and life experiences, which best serves the needs of the group's diverse patient population. Aside from his clinical and administrative duties at Psychiatry Treatment Centers (PTC), he currently serves as volunteer clinical faculty within UCLA's Mood Disorders Clinic.
